Marseille-born designer Ora ïto was chosen to rethink the metro of the city, the design of which was unveiled this Monday morning by the Metropolis. “We wanted a timeless metro, endowed with the capacity to cross eras, of extreme modernity while preserving the origin,” says Ora ïto.
In its original form since its entry into service in 1977, the Marseille metro will finally enter modernity. The 38 trains will be fully automated in their entirety by November 2026 with a first delivery in two years.
Alstom will be responsible for the creation of the trains and their integration into the current system. A particularly complex site which will not necessarily stop traffic during the duration of the work. The first trainsets will be delivered in early 2023.
